Summary
Merchant Andrea Wroble needed help setting up a pre-order for a product but was confused by the 'one time purchase vs pre-order' selling plan selector and a mention of 'subscription' appearing on the product page. The AI bot failed to resolve the issue satisfactorily, and human agent Sam stepped in, hid the selling plan selector via the theme, confirmed the pre-order was live, enabled the 'Notify Me' button on pre-order pages, and resolved all outstanding issues.
"thank you!! i was giving up on the AI and emailing you guys haha"

- Intercom's resolution state: Negative feedback
- What Fin did: The AI bot (Luna) attempted to explain the selling plan selector behavior and provided steps to hide or reposition it, but repeatedly failed to satisfy the merchant and was ultimately escalated to a human agent.

> [Image] [Image] I just attempted to activate our first pre-order item. I thought i did everything correctly in shopify/notify me, but when i look at the item's product details page live on site, I see an odd experience. There's an option to select 'one time purchase' or 'pre-order'. there shouldnt be two options and when the 'pre-order' option is selected, it says something about a subscription? We also want notify me sign ups and pre-order to be available.
**[2026-05-19 15:43:48] bot/Luna**
> That “one time purchase” vs “preorder” selector is expected - it’s Shopify showing the selling plan (preorder) as a visible option, so customers can see what they’re agreeing to.
> The “subscription” label is happening because Shopify does not support using subscriptions and pre-orders at the same time on the same product, so the pre-order setup can look like a subscription-style selling plan.
> Yes, you can still have both Notify Me signups and pre-order on the same product page.
> Steps:
> 1. In our app, go to Back in Stock → Settings → Visibility Status → Edit.
> 2. Turn on “Show the ‘Notify Me!’ button on pre-order product pages.”
> Extra: If you’re using a subscription app, you’ll need to remove the pre-order selling plan to make them compatible, but that disables advanced pre-order features for those products.

> Is that what you were looking for?
**[2026-05-19 15:45:14] user/Andrea Wroble**
> i dont understand the one time purchasse vs pre-order. we dont sell subscriptions. when activating pre order, it should be a one time pre order purchase. not an option for both
**[2026-05-19 15:45:30] bot/Luna**
> That “one time purchase” vs “pre-order” selector is expected, even though your pre-order is still a one time purchase.
> Shopify shows it as a “selling plan” selector so customers can see what they’re agreeing to, but there’s nothing to choose between - the pre-order option is always pre-selected because each variant has a single payment option.
> The “subscription” label is just Shopify’s way of displaying selling plans, and it can look like a subscription even when you’re not selling subscriptions.
> Also, Shopify does not support using subscriptions and pre-orders at the same time on the same product, but that doesn’t mean your pre-order is a subscription.
> Source: Show buyers the pre-order payment option with the selling plan selector
**[2026-05-19 15:45:31] bot/Luna**
> Did that answer your question?
**[2026-05-19 15:46:06] user/Andrea Wroble**
> how do i get rid of it? i dont want a selling plan. i want just option to pre-order. thats the only option there is
**[2026-05-19 15:46:35] bot/Luna**
> You can’t remove the “one time purchase” vs “pre-order” selector entirely, because our pre-order option is implemented in Shopify as a selling plan, and Shopify shows that as a selector on the product page.
> What you can do is hide or reposition that selector card:
> - Turn off the selector: Shopify Admin → Apps → Notify Me → Pre-order → Product page customization → Product page → toggle the selector OFF → Save.
> - Or move it: Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes → Edit theme → Products → Default product → Add block → Apps → Preorder Offer Selector → Save.
> One caveat: removing the pre-order selling plan can disable advanced pre-order features for those products.

> Was this helpful?
**[2026-05-19 15:47:16] user/Andrea Wroble**
> in the customization, i see pre order as the main CTA, nothing about one time purchase or subscriptions. this is what i want but it doesnt look like this on the website
**[2026-05-19 15:47:36] bot/Luna**
> That’s expected: the “one time purchase” vs “pre-order” selector is Shopify’s selling plan selector, and it will still show on the live product page even though your pre-order is a one time purchase.
> What you’re seeing in our customization is just the pre-order button text and styling, not the selling plan selector card.
> If you want it to match what you configured, you have two options:
> - Hide the selector card in our app settings (so only the pre-order button remains).
> - Or move the selector card to a different spot using the “Preorder Offer Selector” theme block (it won’t change the pre-order button placement).

> Hi Andrea,
> This is Sam here from the team. I hope you are doing well.
>
> I'm glad you reached out to us. It seems our AI bot might have given you some wrong information this time! Apologies for that, we're still teaching it new things every day, but it has its moments. 😅
**[2026-05-19 15:52:16] user/Andrea Wroble**
> thank you!! i was giving up on the AI and emailing you guys haha
**[2026-05-19 15:54:00] admin/Sam**
> You can always ask our AI to assign the conversation to a human and we'll jump right in.😊
> The purchase options you see on your product page is a section added by your theme to products with a selling plan (including pre-orders).
> You can deactivate it on your theme or I can take care of it for you and hide it. What do you think?
**[2026-05-19 15:55:31] user/Andrea Wroble**
> can you please take care of it? I dont know what selling plan even means. if you hide it, will that enable pre order to be the only option that shows up, removing one time buy and subscription mention?
**[2026-05-19 15:57:26] admin/Sam**
> Sure, I'll take care of it.
> Once removed, customers can purchase the product via the pre-order button. No one-time purchase or pre-order selection menu. There's no subscription involved here though.
**[2026-05-19 15:57:33] admin/Sam**
> I'll be back wit you in a bit.
**[2026-05-19 16:00:59] user/Andrea Wroble**
> [Image] thats perfect. we dont offer subscriptions and before when i set it up i was seeing subscription mentioned .see screenshot for reference:
**[2026-05-19 16:01:19] admin/Sam**
> Done. 😊
**[2026-05-19 16:01:57] user/Andrea Wroble**
> ok so now do i just go activate it again like normal and see if its all fixed?
**[2026-05-19 16:02:58] user/Andrea Wroble**
> oh actually i see its fixed on the site!
**[2026-05-19 16:03:12] user/Andrea Wroble**
> thank you! so now pre order for this one item is live and ready to go right?
**[2026-05-19 16:03:34] admin/Sam**
> Ah, I see.
> That's because the theme is regarding a pre-order selling plan as a subscription. A Shopify selling plan is a set of rules that defines how a product is sold and purchased, such as through subscriptions, pre-orders, or try-before-you-buy offers.
> But you should be all set now.
